This building system is a culmination of research, study, and experience through my 28 years as a builder. It is adaptable to standard building practices, offers a complete, efficient system from footings to ridge line and is easily understood by both the professional builder and the person building his own home.

Framing

Standard framing techniques are adequate for building homes, but framing is an overlooked part of the building's total energy package.

By adapting changes that are discussed in this book, you can make the framing system work for the overall comfort and efficiency of your home.

Solar - A Primer

When using the sun for heat we usually think of a fairly radical and expensive home. But by using the building methods outlined in this book and a few changes to the conventional home design you can use the sun to your advantage.

Math for Building the House

Let's say you are painting the ceiling in a round room that is 20' across (diameter = 20'). To find out how much paint you will need, use this formula.

Another use for this formula is to make sure that the venting is correct for the plumbing system in the house. The total size for the venting is equal to the size of the drainage going out of the house. By adding the area of the vent pipes, you can check to see that the venting is adequate.
